Ultrasounds can help in a variety of ways with the actual rehabilitation of your pet. They reduce the healing time of certain soft tissue injuries and can help inflammation at the site of an injury. We often use them to increase flexibility of structures such as ligaments, tendons, scar tissue and fibrous joint capsules.

Ultrasounds have also been shown to stimulate the production of collagen, which is the main protein component in soft tissues like tendons and ligaments. As the ultrasound waves pass from the treatment head into the skin, they cause the vibration of the surrounding tissues, particularly those that contain collagen. This means that they can accelerate the cell growth phase of healing.

Another effect of ultrasound waves is to increase the production of heat within tissue. This heating may help to reduce pain and muscle spasms while promoting the healing process.
